AGM Update

Firstly, we would like to thank all of our members who joined our online AGM on Saturday 29th August 2020, your participation was much appreciated.

Following the AGM, we would like to update our membership with the following:

Both Piia Korpi and PJ McLeod stood down from the Board at the AGM and we would like to say a huge thank you to both Piia and PJ for their support and dedication to ESSDA over last few years, we look forward to seeing them on the dance floor for many years to come. Unfortunately we did not receive any formal nominations to replace their positions in this years election. With this in mind, the board have decided to co-opt Marion Chambon (FR) to join the Board for 2020/21, with a view to her standing for election for one further year at the next available AGM in 2021. Marion was present at this years AGM when the Board’s intentions to Co-opt her were shared with the members present. The Board is currently looking for another female or non-binary ESSDA member who might be interested in being co-opted onto the Board to ensure our community remains diversely represented. If you are interested, then please write to us expressing your interest.

There were two other candidates standing for other positions and we are pleased to announce that Pete Meager was re-elected to the Board along with Mark Hebell who was elected for the very first time (following a short period of having been co-opted onto the Board). Both Pete and Mark will now serve for two years as newly elected members of the Board.

The remaining Board members were not due for election in 2020, a full list of the newly formed Board can be found:

We had new sub-committees agreed at the AGM and if any other member is interested in joining one of our new or existing sub-committees then we invite you to contact the relevant Board members below to express your interest. We will be uploading a full sub-committee members list shortly but below is a list of the current sub-committee focus areas as well as the assigned Board leads:

ESSDA Annual General Meeting & Elections for 2020

The ESSDA board would like to announce that the Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday 29th August 2020 at 14.00 GMT

Due to the cancellation of all international tournaments it has been decided to hold the AGM via Zoom to enable as much participation as possible. All agenda items will be covered within this meeting, including elections of this year’s 4 board member positions.

Voting for elections this year will be run through online voting and all election voting will close midnight on Friday 28th August 2020.

If you would like to stand for one of the board positions please send your interest via email to along with a short Bio (including why you wish to stand for the board) and a headshot photo. Further information on those members standing for (re)election will follow after the deadline of interest has passed.

Below are the pre-requisites for becoming a new board member:

Members who are not currently on the Board are able to be nominated to stand for election as long as they have agreed to it. Any member who is nominated needs to be proposed and seconded (a second person to support the nomination), by paid up members before being able to stand for election (if membership fee applicable). Nominations must be received at least 4 weeks in advance of the AGM (01/08/2020). Members cannot be nominated on the day. Details of candidates who have been nominated must be sent to the members in advance of the meeting to enable voting prior to the AGM.

Voting this year will all be via online survey due to the fact we will not be meeting face to face to count physical votes, therefore proxy voting is not required.

If you have any questions then please let us know. We are in unprecedented times and have adapted our AGM to enable us to hold it online, however inevitably there will be some differences to our usual processes.

Any other topic additions members may wish to add to the agenda should be received no later than ten days prior to the AGM.

Many thanks

On behalf of the ESSDA Board

Le Rendez-Vous de Paris 2021 sets a new date!

Welcome to the Rendez-Vous de Paris 2021

After the huge success of the dancesport competition of the Paris Gay

are pleased to welcome each of you back in 2021 in Paris.

The competition will include A-D categories in ballroom and latin for
same-sex and mixed couples.

Social dancing is also important for us, and participants will have
several occasions to enjoy dancing together.

Last but not least, workshops will be proposed for all competitors by
renowned international teachers.

More information will be published on our website

Berlin Open 2020 – CANCELLATION

Quote from Pinkballroom Berlin:

‘We haded, we hoped we banged, and some maybe even prayed…. and now it’s still time: Due to the Corona pandemic and the related restrictions, we say the 19. Open Berlin Championships for Women and Women’s and Men’s couples in the standard and Latin American dances on June 20., 2020

We will be watching the further development. This is a threat to all who are getting too comfortable on the sofa. If at a later date of the year, the restrictions were loosened to the extent that both a training company would be possible again and the organization of an event with a minimum of mood, we would designate a new appointment within 2020 For that, we would let ourselves and all dancers run 2 months ahead so that we can organize a little bit, and you can train a little bit.

And since we’re at it: The German Championships and EuroGames will not take place on the scheduled dates in 2020 For more information, visit and

We’ll watch when the unusual tournaments “2020” will take place next year. If everything has gone right, we’ll set an appointment for the Berlin Open 2021 Planned in mid-June.’

Eurogames 2020 Düsseldorf – Currently Postponed

Yesterday evening, the German government decided to extend the ban on large gatherings and events until August 31st 2020, in their bid to halt the spread of the coronavirus. This effectively puts an end to hosting the Düsseldorf 2020 EuroGames at the dates initially previewed – August 5th – 9th.

EGLSF has been in close communication with Düsseldorf EuroGames organisers since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis and working to find a solution to maintaining EuroGames in Düsseldorf.

At the moment, the EuroGames 2020 Düsseldorf are not cancelled!

We ask participants for their patience, while we work through alternatives with the EGLSF, the Düsseldorf EuroGames organizers, stakeholders, sponsors, the city of Düsseldorf, the North Rhine-Westphalia federal state government, as well as future EuroGames hosts Copenhagen and Nijmegen, in assessing other date options for the event. Until a decision is made, there will be no effect on potential refunds, which means the terms and conditions as listed on the website still apply!

We will come back to you shortly, once we have determined the options. We understand that this still leaves participants with some uncertainty. But we are trying to bring certainty back step by step, by working together to find the best possible solution.
