ESSDA Statement April 2022

To all ESSDA members and Same-Sex/Equality Dancers,

The last two years have been extremely challenging for all of us and social distancing has presented particular problems for partner dancing including of course same-sex and and equality dancing. It has been fantastic to be able to get back on the dance floor in recent months and we hope to see many of you in the not too distant future.

The last two years have also seen several changes to ESSDA with Pia, Patrice, Peter, Pat and Kai having stepped down from the board. We thank them very much for their contribution.

We would also like to take this opportunity to apologise for the recent inconsistent communication and delay to the work of ESSDA. Looking to the future, we have to make new plans to support our wonderful same-sex/equality dance community and we hope you will all contribute to this.

The new ESSDA board, in position as from 6 February 2022, and confirmed by the boardmeeting in April is:

Marion Chambon – President Co-Female
Davy Brocatus – President Co-Male
Corentin Normand – Treasurer
Mark Hebell – Secretary
Tom Dane – Membership Officer
Leezah Hertzmann – Boardmember

The most urgent matters on the board’s agenda are:

– showdance rules (we plan to have these ready for consideration at our AGM in August and to take effect from 2023)
– senior age categories
– follow up on EuroGames 2022/2023/2024/2025
– follow up on GayGames 2023
– ESSDA AGM will be on 20 August 2022 (online)

In the longer term, the board plans to work on:
– a fresh look at our position on issues of same-sex and equality dancing, and gender diversity and inclusion
– IFSSDA (constitution)
– Calender and Grand Slam

We very much hope that you will support our work by becoming or remaining a member of ESSDA. If you would like to know more about the work of ESSDA, please contact board@essda.eu

There is a lot of work to do and we need your help. If you would like to be actively involved in the board, in any of the projects mentioned above or have any other ideas please email board@essda.eu

TOGETHER WE ARE STRONG ! KEEP DANCING ! See you soon…

Yours sincerely,

ESSDA Board

ESSDA New Starters Booklet

For all same-sex dancers who think about taking part in competitions or are just unsure about it, our board member responsible for marketing Trix created a booklet with a lot of useful information about your first start. And even if you have already competed you might find some new and helpful information.

ESSDA wants to thank all who were involved and helped creating this booklet!

Download the pdf-version of the ESSDA-New_Starters-Booklet.

2018’s Membership Fee – Payment Options

With respect to membership payments, voting and candidacy for an ESSDA board position: only paid-up members have voting rights and are eligible for a board position. ESSDA members who haven’t done so yet can renew their membership by paying the amount involved. Deadline for membership payments: on Monday 23 July the money needs to be in ESSDA’s bank account.

For members in non-Euro-countries the option to pay in cash at GG10 in Paris is offered. The same deadline applies: on Monday 23 July your request for this option needs to have been received by the board at treasurer@essda.eu (those who have already contacted our treasurer don’t have to send another message). A specific time and location at the dance venue in Paris will be communicated for these cash payments.

Becoming a member: you need to complete and mail the member registration form to board@essda.eu as soon as possible, to allow for either membership payment by bank transfer or requesting for payment in cash on Sunday 22 July at the latest. Candidacies for a board position (motivation letter + picture) need to be mailed to board@essda.eu on Monday 23 July 6 PM CET at the latest. This way the board can put together and mail candidates’ information to ESSDA members that same night, and have the voting procedure in place.

GG Paris 2018 – Registration is still open

Note that you can still register for the dance competitions at the GayGames in Paris. Find all information on the Paris 2018 website. The deadline for registrations is scheduled for 30 June 2018.
